The pain is over, no more crazy workarounds for tracking multiple client cases!
If you’ve ever had to create multiple matters to track the same work to send each client a separate bill or show the courts the breakdown for each client, that is a thing of the past.
With Multi-Client Matters (MCM), firms on Essentials, Advanced, and Expand plans can now add multiple clients to a single matter. Now you can create one matter and add up to 11 clients, designate which client is the default client, and what % of the bill each is responsible for.
Joint billing
Adding multiple clients to a matter allows you to generate invoices that include the names of all of those clients, removing the need to manually edit bills with external tools. When adding a client, you can choose whether they should be a bill recipient, which determines whether they receive a copy of the bill.

Time and expense tracking is seamless as there is no manual pro-rating, splitting, etc. Clio Manage handles all of that for you.

Multi-Client trust accounting
I know what you’re thinking…how do I track each client’s trust funds? Clio Manage does that for you too. You can now create trust requests for each client straight from the matter dashboard by clicking New request and choosing which client you are asking to send funds:

From the Matter dashboard you can easily see how much each client has in trust at the Matter and Client levels by clicking the View breakdown option in the Matter trust funds box:

You can also see what makes up the Protected funds by clicking the dropdown for the amount protected to see what is being held and why.
When applying available trust funds to a bill, you will need to select the client whose trust funds you would like to apply to the bill. Currently, Clio does not allow you to specify an order or draw from multiple clients in a single transaction.
Trust account reports
The following reports support multi-client trust accounting:
- Matter balance summary
- Trust management
- Invoice payments
- Client Ledger
- Trust Listing
I think I can hear the sigh of relief from here!
